Shanthi Black Tie Event – 2018

SHANTHI BLACK TIE EVENT - 2018

The Shanthi Foundation Black Tie Dinner Dance was held on the 3rd of November 2018 at the Liverpool Catholic Club at Prestons. Our objective for the event was to raise on-going awareness of the Shanthi Foundation’s efforts and to continue to raise funds for our biggest aspiration yet…

…building the world’s first Eco-Friendly Palliative Care Hospital in Sri Lanka!

The evening started off with drinks and canapés. The photos with the guests against the Shanthi Foundation banner and the “Table of Hope” set the theme for the evening.

Four hundred and eighty-five guests arrived from all corners of New South Wales. The gentleman looked dashing in their crisp white shirts and black-tie suits and the ladies were enchanting and elegant as always.

We acknowledged our corporate sponsors for the evening for their generous donations:

“A single light can both define and defy the darkness”.

With these words the Chairman and Founder of Shanthi Foundation, Dr. Suharsha Kanathigoda lit the “Light of Hope”. The committee members passed on the flame to the guests and the ballroom softly came to light in the glow of one hundred candles.

The Shanthi Foundation Black Tie Dinner Dance begins!

The Emcees for the evening were our very own Committee Members Senani Gunasekara and Malka Bakes. The band for the evening was the amazing KAMIS.

The music was excellent as was demonstrated by our guests taking to the dance floor like moths to a flame!

Amongst our 485 guests, the honourable dignitaries were Mrs Himalee Arunathileke (Deputy High Commissioner of Sri Lanka in Australia) & husband Nayana, Mr Lal Wickramatunga (Sri Lankan Consul General Sydney) and representatives of the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) and Australian National University (ANU). The Premier of NSW, Ms Gladys Berejiklian couldn’t make it in person, however, she sent the Shanthi Foundation us a personal message praising the efforts of Shanthi Foundation’s cause and efforts.

Our Chairman and Founder, Dr. Suharsha Kanathigoda’s message was powerful as he highlighted the dire need to bring hope to those suffering from life limiting illnesses like CKDu and Cancer, especially in the north, eastern and north central provinces of Sri Lanka. He also shared news of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that has been signed with the Sri Lankan Ministry of Health and the 2-acre block of land allocated by the Sri Lankan Government for the building of the Shanthi Palliative Care Hospital in Anuradhapura. Dr. Kanathigoda also mentioned the signing of the Government Cabinet Paper approving the Shanthi Hospital project and the confirmed completion of the architectural design of the hospital.

A record-breaking AU$ 275,000 was raised on the night in donations and pledges!

The passion and commitment from our guests on the evening brings us closer to our goal of building the world’s first eco-friendly hospital in Sri Lanka.

We wish to say a heartfelt “Thank You” to RHJ International and PGH Bricks for sponsoring the table deco, Event 360 for an amazing sound and lighting experience, Thanuja Wijesekara for the photography, Project 21 for the videography, KAMIS for their fabulous musical extravaganza, Liverpool Catholic Club for their efficient and professional guest service, all the generous sponsors and businesses that donated for the event.

The Shanthi committee worked tirelessly under the leadership of Mrs. Sonja Gunasekara (Events Leader) to ensure every detail was precisely executed in order for our guests to have an enjoyable and memorable evening.

Finally, a mighty “Thank You” to four hundred and eighty-five selfless and compassionate guests that came together to celebrate making the extraordinary happen.

Together we will give “CARE BEYOND CURE” to those in need.
